{"id":3604,"date":"2022-07-26T15:22:41","date_gmt":"2022-07-26T07:22:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ic_ustc.test\/?news=notice-of-2022-my-story-of-chinese-hanzi-international-competition"},"modified":"2025-04-24T18:02:47","modified_gmt":"2025-04-24T10:02:47","slug":"notice-of-2022-my-story-of-chinese-hanzi-international-competition","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/ic.ustc.event2.work\/?news=notice-of-2022-my-story-of-chinese-hanzi-international-competition","title":{"rendered":"Notice of 2022 My Story of Chinese Hanzi international competition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:16px;font-family:'Times New Roman','serif'\">The 2022 \u201cMy Story of Chinese Hanzi\u201d international competition, hosted by the Chinese People\u2019s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) and organized by People\u2019s Daily Online, has kicked off around the globe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:16px;font-family:'Times New Roman','serif'\">The theme of this year\u2019s \u201cMy Story of Chinese Hanzi\u201d international competition is \u201cYi\u201d (<\/span><span style=\"font-size:16px;font-family:\u5b8b\u4f53\">\u4e49<\/span><span style=\"font-size:16px;font-family:'Times New Roman','serif'\">), an ancient Chinese philosophical concept that stands for kindheartedness and justice in Confucianism and morality and righteousness in Mohism. Confucius, the greatest educator of ancient China, a major thinker as well as the founder of Confucianism, once said that \u201cOne who does nothing when encountering injustice is a coward\u201d; and Mencius, another ancient Chinese philosopher in the Confucian school of thought, believed that \u201cA sense of shame is the beginning of righteousness.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:16px;font-family:'Times New Roman','serif'\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\"><span style=\"font-size:16px;font-family:'Times New Roman','serif'\">Competition procedures:<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:16px;font-family:'Times New Roman','serif'\">The international competition consists of preliminary rounds, semi-finals, and finals. The first two rounds of the competition will be held online. Contestants will answer questions and provide a one-minute self-introduction video in the preliminary rounds. Second-round contestants will then take part in the round via video link and speak off the cuff. After a tally of votes cast by experts and judges, the top 10 selected winners will move onto the finals, which are slated to be held offline in mid-to-late September.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:16px;font-family:'Times New Roman','serif'\">Each finalist will deliver a seven-minute speech focusing on the theme of \u201cYi\u201d in Chinese, with various awards expected to be decided based on the scores and comments provided by the judges.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:16px;font-family:'Times New Roman','serif'\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\"><span style=\"font-size:16px;font-family:'Times New Roman','serif'\">Eligible candidates:<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:16px;font-family:'Times New Roman','serif'\">&#8211; International students in China, including ethnic Chinese foreigners who are at least third-generation immigrants;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:16px;font-family:'Times New Roman','serif'\">&#8211; Foreigners working in China whose native language is not Chinese and whose parents\u2019 native language is not Chinese;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:16px;font-family:'Times New Roman','serif'\">&#8211; Other non-native speakers of Chinese who are non-Chinese citizens.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:16px;font-family:'Times New Roman','serif'\">There is no age limit for contestants.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:16px;font-family:'Times New Roman','serif'\">Note: Finalists who made it to the last round in the 2021 \u201cMy Story of Chinese Hanzi\u201d international competition will be ineligible to move on to the semi-finals and finals for this year\u2019s competition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:16px;font-family:'Times New Roman','serif'\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\"><span style=\"font-size:16px;font-family:'Times New Roman','serif'\">Schedule:<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoListParagraph\" style=\"margin-left: 24px; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:16px;font-family:'Times New Roman','serif'\">1.<span style=\"font:9px 'Times New Roman'\">      <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size:16px;font-family:'Times New Roman','serif'\">Online preliminary rounds \u2013 contestants will answer questions and provide a one-minute self-introduction video from July to early August.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoListParagraph\" style=\"margin-left: 24px; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:16px;font-family:'Times New Roman','serif'\">2.<span style=\"font:9px 'Times New Roman'\">      <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size:16px;font-family:'Times New Roman','serif'\">Online semi-finals \u2013 semifinalists will be divided into groups to make impromptu speeches via video link in August. Ten winners will be selected to take part in the final round based on the scores provided by experts and judges.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoListParagraph\" style=\"margin-left: 24px; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:16px;font-family:'Times New Roman','serif'\">3.<span style=\"font:9px 'Times New Roman'\">      <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size:16px;font-family:'Times New Roman','serif'\">Offline finals \u2013 the finalists will deliver a seven-minute speech focusing on the theme of \u201cYi\u201d in Chinese in mid-to-late September. Judges will score each of the speeches and select the ultimate champion as well as recipients for various awards according to the contestants\u2019 Chinese language speaking abilities, expressiveness, the core message behind their stories, and how their stories can promote exchanges between different civilizations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:16px;font-family:'Times New Roman','serif'\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\"><span style=\"font-size:16px;font-family:'Times New Roman','serif'\">Tips:<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoListParagraph\" style=\"margin-left: 24px; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:16px;font-family:'Times New Roman','serif'\">1.<span style=\"font:9px 'Times New Roman'\">      <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size:16px;font-family:'Times New Roman','serif'\">Contestants need to answer five questions within 10 minutes via a WeChat mini program during the preliminary rounds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoListParagraph\" style=\"margin-left: 24px; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:16px;font-family:'Times New Roman','serif'\">2.<span style=\"font:9px 'Times New Roman'\">      <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size:16px;font-family:'Times New Roman','serif'\">After answering the questions, contestants should write out their favorite Chinese character according to the instructions provided.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoListParagraph\" style=\"margin-left: 24px; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:16px;font-family:'Times New Roman','serif'\">3.<span style=\"font:9px 'Times New Roman'\">      <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size:16px;font-family:'Times New Roman','serif'\">Contestants must send a one-minute self-introduction video along with an image of the poster showing the contestant\u2019s hand-written Chinese character (which the contestant can save after submitting their answers on WeChat) via email to <a href=\"mailto:hanzi@people.cn\">hanzi@people.cn<\/a> and cc to <a href=\"mailto:iso@ustc.edu.cn\">iso@ustc.edu.cn<\/a> <strong><span style=\"color:red\">by no later than 12 midnight (China Standard Time) on Aug 5<\/span><\/strong>. The title of your email must use the following format: <strong><span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\">\u201cyour full name + your mobile phone number<\/span><\/strong>\u201d (Note: the name and phone number should match those used when answering the questions).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoListParagraph\" style=\"margin-left: 24px; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:16px;font-family:'Times New Roman','serif'\">4.<span style=\"font:9px 'Times New Roman'\">      <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size:16px;font-family:'Times New Roman','serif'\">Video file requirements: MP4, 1080P, landscape format. The video should not be longer than one minute in length.
